Stop Hunger December 1

Luke 3:11 – John answered, The man with two tunics should share with him who has none, and the one who has food should do the same.

John, a cousin of Jesus, is concerned with one thing: selfless concern for one’s disadvantaged brothers and sisters.  He is preaching in advance the message of Jesus.

stop580Today we are being called to the same. We need to stop hunger, NOW!  So UCF invites you to the gym of Advent Lutheran on Tuesday December 1 at 6:30pm. But we will not worship in our usual way – but we will worship through the gift of service. We plan to pack 12,000 meals for the world’s hungry and malnourished. But we need you.  The more that show up – the more meals we can pack.

This event is free and you need not bring any money, but if you would like to contribute toward the cause, donations will be accepted. The more donations also means more meals.

A weakened economy and rising food costs has created a scarcity of food among people who never thought they would be lacking. According to the U.S. government, 1 in 9 households (10.9%) did not have enough food for a healthy lifestyle at some point during 2006.

Food banks report a 15% to 20% increase in demand from last year. And 4 in 5 food banks (80%) could not meet this month’s demand without cutting operations or food portions.
